Serena Williams Thanks Sister Venus After Final Match

There was hardly a dry eye in the house on Friday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium as Serena Williams suffered a defeat in what was undoubtedly the last match of her famous career. Ajla Tomljanovi of Australia prevailed over the 23-time Grand Slam winner in a match that went the distance and included three tough sets of play.

Serena Started by Thanking Her Father:

During the interview after the match, Williams became sentimental as she commended her parents, including her father, Richard Williams. The latter was the main character in the film King Richard, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. She choked back the words and said, “Thank you, Daddy. I know you’re watching,” as tears began to form in her eyes. “Thanks, Mom, Oh, my God.”

Then She went to Thank Her Sister

Williams said that she believes her emotions are “happy tears,” and she complimented her older sister Venus for making it possible for her to have such a remarkable career.

She stated, “I wouldn’t be Serena if there weren’t Venus, so thank you, Venus. She’s the only reason that Serena Williams ever existed.”

Then She Ended it by Thanking Her Friends, Family & Supporters

Williams continued by expressing her gratitude to her family and friends, specifically mentioning her daughter Olympia & husband, Alexis Ohanian. She then expressed her appreciation for the record-breaking crowd and the millions of supporters who supported her throughout her 27-year career.

She stated that “, “It’s been a fun ride. It’s been the most incredible ride and the journey I’ve ever been on, I mean, in my life. I’m just so grateful to every single person that’s ever said, Go, Serena, in their life. I’m just so grateful.”  ”You got me here.”

One of the finest athletes of all time has just retired, but not before giving herself and her loved ones the fitting send-off they deserved. Like all her fans, we will miss her too.
