Lea Michele to replace Beanie Feldstein in Broadway’s revival of “Funny Girl.”

Funny Girl is an American musical comedy-drama movie directed by William Wyler in 1968. The film took inspiration from the book with the same title, “Funny Girl.”

In early 2022 around March, the production of the revival of the show started to take place. Initially, the show had Beanie Feldstein as the main lead. However, after two couple of months, Lea Michele replaced her.

What criticism did Beanie Feldstein face during her time on the show?

The main criticism Beanie Feldstein faced was that the audience thought her voice was inappropriate for the musical show. The reviews claimed that the role needs a stronger singing voice. At the same time, Beanie Feldstein’s voice was overly nasal. There were some harsh reviews, which also stated that her voice was unpleasant.

After a couple of months, Feldstein used Instagram to announce to her fans that she would leave the show. She posted, “Once production decided to take the show differently. I made the tough decision to step away sooner than anticipated.” July 31st was Beanie Feldstein’s last performance.

Lea Michele is replacing Beanie Feldstein.

Lea Michele is renowned for her role as Rachel Berry in “Glee.” Coincidently the character Rachel Berry’s idol was Barbra Streisand from “Funny Girl.” It is almost like all the stars aligned for Lea Michele as she got the role of Barbra Streisand. According to the audience, they look forward to seeing Lea Michele star in “Funny girl” as she has the appropriate voice.

If the audience positively accepts her role, it enhances Lea Michele’s Broadway career.

Beanie Feldstein is a good actress; however, her voice was unsuitable for Barbra Streisand from “Funny Girl.” Lea Michele may be a more appropriate choice for the role; as a result, the quality of the show may elevate.
