Since Amazon is about to release the very pricey The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power this weekend, HBO’s House of the Dragon has made a very cunning move today by releasing the entire first episode of the Game of Thrones prequel on YouTube, absolutely free.
“Don’t You Remember the Dragons?” the Show Seems to be Asking
The step is fascinating because it showcases what a strange moment for fantasy TV we are in at this point. Almost five years after Amazon’s King commanded that his creators make him a Game of Thrones that was entirely his own, Bezos currently has a hugely expensive, highly lauded fantasy series. And it will immediately compete with HBO’s revived powerhouse, both coming out within the same month.
Rings Of Power Does Seem to have a Small Edge

Rings of Power appears to have a small edge as it has been made relatively evident that there’s no sum of money that Amazon—whose spending plan is endless at this point—will not throw at the series to be the winner. However, it will take forever — and could stay permanently vague, given how much turn streaming figures tend to get — to determine which of these two shows would ultimately “win” this little head-to-head match.
We Do have One Suggestion
However, we have one suggestion for you, Jeffrey: why don’t you upload the first episode on YouTube and allow the number of views to determine which one gets the most attention? (And, hey, we are not just recommending it because we do not want to go digging out our Prime password to watch the program; we’d just truly be intrigued to see which service would end up being the most popular.
What do you guys think? Do you think it was smart for HBO to make the first episode of the prequel available on youtube for free? Well, we believe the idea isn’t that bad.
